JIONE CHOI

Jione Choi has built a practice based upon memories - how they appear and disappear. Through intangible, memories can act as mechanisms through which we see the world. Choi's paintings express this fluid sense of ethereality, recalling past and present at once.

Born in Seoul, South Korea. Lives and works in London and Seoul.

Jione Choi received MFA Painting in Slade School of Fine Art 2019, London. She is one of the Tannery artists and is working inside of Drawing Room in Bermonsey. Recently, she received RWS Publicity Prize 2023 and RWS Young Artist Award 2024 from the Royal Watercolour Society and she won the First prize of Art Gemini 9th edition. Two of her works are selected for the Drawing Biennial 2024 organised by Drawing Room. She also has been selected by Tracey Emin as one of the Finalists of the Margate art prize 2023. In 2022, the artist won the Signature Art Prize 2022in Drawing & Printmaking Category and one of her works (Growing Love) has been included in art collection of Standard Chartered Bank. Other awards and recognitions include; Shortlisted artist of the Royal Society of Watercolour Open 2022; Shortlisted artist of the Sunny art Prize 2022; Longlisted artist of the Trinity buoy wharf drawing prize; Collaboration with Heal’s at Mansard gallery during London design festival (2019); part of the Rising Star Report by Saatchi Art (2019); Finalist of Marshwood Arts Award (2019); Shortlisted artist of the Graduate Art Prize (2019). Jione had 4 solo shows and participated in 30 group shows internationally.
