HANNAH THOMAS
HannahThomas is a British painter whose practice explores abstracted landscapes shaped by themes of mortality and absurdism. Working primarily in acrylics, oil sticks, and pastels, she develops bold, experimental compositions informed by a background in photography and a transition toward painting-driven autonomy.
Hannah Thomas is a painter currently working out of her studio in Wiltshire, UK. Working with acrylics, oil sticks, and pastels, she creates predominantly large, bold works characterised by recurring motifs amidst fractured, abstracted landscapes in dialogue with ideas of mortality and absurdism. Her technique is constantly evolving and she embraces a vital, experimental practice always in the process of recalibrating itself.
She acquired a BA (Hons) in Art and Visual Culture from UWE in Bristol, studying photography. Living and working for over a decade in London as a professional photographer, she moved over to painting in 2019, driven by a desire for greater autonomy and creative freedom in her artistic output.
She has been included in group shows with Shoredtich Modern Gallery, London (2025) and Linden Hall Studios, Kent (2024). She was longlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize 2024 and completed the Turps Correspondence Course (with Turps Art School, London) in June 2024, which provides mentoring and feedback to assist in the progression of artists’ studio practice.
She recently participated in the Ovada Summer Residency 2025 in Oxford, where she created a new series of small-scale paintings. She has also been offered a place at the Royal College of Art Painting MA (2026/27).
Her work is included in private and corporate collections in the UK and internationally.
