Christina Papaioannou's paintings reflect the visual condition of the twenty-first century, where images circulate continuously across digital platforms, detached from their original contexts and liberated from traditional hierarchies.
Drawing from an expansive visual archive that spans Renaissance painting, medieval iconography, Greek mythology, historical engravings, popular culture, children's drawings, and internet imagery, she constructs complex compositions in which disparate references coexist within a single pictorial space.
