Bargiotas has fabricated myths and drawn them since childhood, and the practice has never really changed shape — only subject. The paintings and drawings assemble private cosmologies from material that is emphatically contemporary: the language of data protection and storage, the imagery of genetics and inheritance, the residue of a decade spent in law. Titles like THEOGONY and The Digital Messiah set the machinery of classification and record-keeping alongside the older myths of creation and deliverance, treating both as systems for explaining where a person comes from and what happens to them.

BIOGRAPHY
Theo Bargiotas was born in Athens and grew up in Tennessee. He came to visual art from law, holding a degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and an LLM in Data Protection Law from the University of Strathclyde. He studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts, completed an MFA in Studio Art at the Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford, and received a Doctor of Design from the LSU College of Art + Design, where his research addressed a philosophical analysis of genetics and cloud storage.
His practice centres on the fabrication of myth and its translation into image. Recent solo exhibitions include THEOGONY at Alma Gallery, Athens (2024), Small Rituals II at Marginalia Gallery, Nicosia (2023), Small Rituals at Genesis Gallery, Athens (2022), and The Digital Messiah at Glassell Gallery, Baton Rouge (2020). He has shown in group exhibitions in Greece, the United Kingdom, Germany, Cyprus and the United States, including at TAF The Art Foundation, Circuits & Currents and the Griechische Kulturstiftung in Berlin, and has taken part in Art Athina in 2020 and 2023. In 2023 he curated Plastic Arts – Bronze Casting at the Benaki Museum / Yannis Pappas Studio, Athens. He is the author of the graphic novel Pernilongo (Jemma Press, 2012) and the play Marmelada (Ocelotos, 2014). He lives and works in Athens, where he teaches painting.
