OVERVIEW
Marc-Aurèle Debut works across sculpture, installation and sound, creating environments in which bodily presence is articulated through repetition, pressure, accumulation and material tension. Drawing from lived experience within queer cultures and social spaces, his practice examines how desire, intimacy and power become embedded within objects, surfaces and systems of circulation.
Working with materials including upholstery foam, leather, latex, resin, springs, pharmaceuticals, supplements and found garments, Debut uses processes of casting, stretching, stitching and assembly to construct forms that shift between attraction and discomfort, softness and control. Repetition operates both as a material strategy and a conceptual framework through which bodies, emotions and desires are organised, circulated and consumed.

BIOGRAPHY
Marc-Aurèle Debut (b. 1990, Besançon, France) is a French artist living and working in London. Working primarily through sculpture and installation, his practice explores desire, intimacy, sexuality and power, examining the tensions that shape contemporary relationships and queer experience. His works often draw on the visual languages of the body, fetish, restraint and repetition, creating encounters that oscillate between attraction and discomfort, vulnerability and control.
Debut studied medicine in Besançon before pursuing Fine Art, graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2015 and completing an MA in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art in 2020. This early engagement with the body and its physical systems continues to inform a sculptural language concerned with corporeality, psychological tension and the ways in which bodies are socially and culturally mediated.
Recent solo exhibitions include *ON REPEAT* at Gathering, London (2026); *What are u into?* at Centre d’Art La Meute, Lausanne (2025); *CORNERED* at The Bomb Factory Art Foundation, London (2024); *Tumescence* at the Tom of Finland Foundation, Los Angeles (2023); and *COITUS* at Christian Cowan, New York (2022).
His work has also been presented internationally in exhibitions at PSM Gallery, Berlin; Halle 14, Leipzig; D Contemporary, London; SHOWstudio, London; Saatchi Gallery, London; Unit 1 Gallery, London; the Royal Society of Sculptors, London; and during Frieze New York.
