BIOGRAPHY

Caitlin Heffernan is a British artist working across painting and installation. Her practice explores the relationship between material, place and perception, often developing through research-led and site-responsive processes. Moving between painting, installation and collaborative projects, Heffernan considers how environments accumulate memory, association and cultural meaning, and how these histories can be reinterpreted through contemporary artistic practice.

She studied at Falmouth School of Art and Winchester School of Art and holds an MFA from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. She later participated in a research laboratory at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm and completed an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in 2025, where she was awarded a Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship.

Heffernan has exhibited extensively in the UK and internationally. Recent exhibitions include *Eternal Return Volume 1* at The Koppel Project, London (2026); *Soft Power*, D Contemporary Award, London (2026); *Touch Grass* at Chilli Art Projects, London (2025); the RCA MA Painting Show, London (2025); *ING Discerning Eye* at the Mall Galleries, London (2023); and projects in Lisbon, Stockholm and across the UK. Earlier in her career, her work was selected for the Jerwood Drawing Prize, touring to institutions across the United Kingdom.

Her practice has also been developed through numerous artist residencies and research programmes, including the Rothko Museum, Latvia; Porthmeor Studios, St Ives; Studio 459, Portugal; PADA Studios, Lisbon; Konstfack University, Stockholm; Triangle Arts Trust in Nigeria; and an International Artist Fellowship in Prague.

Alongside her studio practice, Heffernan is co-director and curator of *Unravelled*, an organisation producing site-specific exhibitions and commissions within historic, cultural and public spaces. Through Unravelled she has developed projects with organisations including the National Trust and the London Wetland Centre.

Her commissions include projects with Metal Arts, Somerset Art Works, the London Wetland Centre and a series of site-responsive exhibitions at National Trust properties. She has received support and awards from Arts Council England, Konstfack University, the Estrid Ericson Foundation and a-n.
