ALLIANCE

3-15 June

SECIL EREL

Seçil Erel, a Turkish-British artist who has long been based in London and also has a studio in Istanbul, unveils her solo exhibition titled “Alliance” at D Contemporary in Mayfair, London. This exhibition features works created specifically for this occasion and will take place from 3rd to 15th June 2025, coinciding with the London Gallery Weekend.

The concept of “Alliance,” which serves as the title of the exhibition, reflects the dualities that create the whole within life and brings together the themes that Seçil Erel has been exploring for a long time. In the early stages of her career, the artist focused on geometric and unitary relationships related to existence, examining them through the lenses of time, space, and memory. However, her journey to settle in London from her homeland —a path taken through difficult conditions and risks—gave rise to an in-depth exploration of inner worlds and life questions. In this context, the visual elements in her works seem to become the paintings themselves, with effects reminiscent of “zoom in-zoom out,” transforming into atmospheres that foster a deep dialogue between her analytical and creative intellect and spirituality.

Seçil Erel has entered a period in her artistic and personal journey that illustrates both physical and internal integration, touching on themes of rebirth, change, and transformation. In this regard, her previous exhibition's title, “State of Being,” resonates with the significance of the breath that now forms the foundation of this exhibition.

Seçil Erel is a Turkish-British artist based in London with studios in both London and Istanbul. The artist, who creates powerful abstract artworks, aims not only to connect reality with the unknown beyond it but also to guide viewers to imagine, feel, and think, while stimulating their inner creativity.

She received her bachelor's and master’s degree from the Painting Department at Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts. Throughout her career, which has led to international recognition, she has participated in numerous international group exhibitions, fairs, symposiums, workshops, and artist residency programs through collaborations with various individuals and institutions, in addition to significant solo exhibitions. In 2016, Istanbul Museum of Graphic Arts published the book about the artist. In pursuit of adding more value to her life and work, she made the decision to move to London. Seçil has completed the Artist Business Development training program offered by the London Creative Network and the EU scholarship. She believes that awareness of one’s own creativity and potential serves as guiding principles for a better future, both individually and collectively. Each piece she creates expresses a series of emotions while representing a range of physical, mental, and energetic resonance fields. The artist aims to spread the journey of awareness, intending to ensure collective consciousness and well-being. In 2020 Below she initiated the Seçil Erel Art Club based on volunteerism, through which she collaborates with art enthusiasts.
